BIO
Sandra has spent her entire career initiating and implementing health care
technical training.A University of Pittsburgh graduate, she served 25 years as the Director
and Founder of the Dental Careers Program at Northern Area Special
Purpose Schools. She developed and published competency based
curriculum for the Department of Education and also presented curriculum
seminars and biannual Technical Updates for Dental Educators at State
and National Health Curriculum conferences. Recent publications include:
“Oral Mucositis Patient Information, You are a Key Player on Your
Treatment Team”, “Nutrition and Oral Care for the Cancer Survivor”, and
DentalTown HygieneTownTips for “Treating Oral Cancer Survivors”.
Since the beginning of her career Ms. Boody has also worked clinically in
the hospital and nursing home arena. Sandy has also been employed as a
private practice clinical hygienist, a product representative, International
sales team educator and product specialist. Most recently she has served
as an oral care consultant training nursing staff and pharmacists in critical
care settings, rehabilitation, nursing homes and hospice care.
She also completed Orofacial Myology training at the University of
Southern California. Having survived the ravages of cancer she now
speaks to dental/medical audiences, and support groups on topics
including: Xerostomia, Remineralization, Treating Mucositis, the Prevention
of Ventilator Associated Pneumonia, Oral Care for the Nursing Home
Patient and Early Cancer Screening, Nutrition and Oral Care for the
Cancer Survivor. Most recently she presented to the Oncology Nursing
Society's Annual Session, Oncology Nursing Symposium, Diamond
Pharmacy Consultants, Special Care Dentistry, West Virginia Health Care
Association Annual Session, Sjogren’s Syndrome, Pemphigus National
Conference and MD Anderson’s Cancer Center.
Ms. Boody has served as Western PA Dental Hygiene Association
President, a patient advocate, advisory member and speaker for the
National Cancer Institute Specialized Programs of Research Excellence,
member of SPOHNC National Survivor Volunteer Network and Face to
Face Healing : Board of Directors founding member. Her personal journey
in combination with her years of clinical experience has been an inspiration
to national and international audiences.
